   Have you been diagnosed with a hereditary disease and were aware of this disease in your genealogy?
   
   Diseases and disorders such as cancer, heart disease, mental illness are hereditary. 
   
   If you were diagnosed with a genetic disease, did knowing this disease was in your family's genealogy help make you aware of looking out for the disease that eventually ended up in a diagnosis?  Did it also help you understand and manage the disease better based on you already knowing of the desease in your geneology? Lastely, does knowing someone in your family or hearing stories of someone in your family who had this disease and is now deceased effect how you manage and treat your disease/disorder?

   Yes and No. Pretty deep questions. I have a diagnosis of Bipolar disorder since '86 as cyclothymia. Since then a long history of this and that diagnosis specific to BPI with features, mixed, and rapid prevalent.
   
   It is biologically driven and genetic, however shall we say may remain dormant until triggered. I am the only sibling with that diagnosis and know pretty much it has jumped them. So, really this question addresses them and their children both adult and middle school. That said I really dun'no . . . their side of the fence. However, I leave (left) it to my siblings how to manage information regarding BP and me.

      Thank you for your answer Tim.  It is a deep question and I am very interested in people's answers.  I appreciate your transparency.  I want to know who family systems learn about genetic disorders and manage them as a genetic family unit.
