What is your take on Jada Pinkett Smith's decision to Boycott the Oscars?

The backlash against the 2016 Academy Award nominations has continued to gain momentum. In a video posted on Facebook, Pinkett Smith made it clear that she was not even going to watch the Oscars on Television this year. On Monday, during Martin Luther King Junior’s birthday, she reiterated that asking or begging for acknowledgement diminishes power and dignity. Jada added that the people of color were a dignified and powerful people who did not need to stoop so low and the only option was to boycott the ceremony all together.

What is your take on her decision?

It's a noble gesture but I doubt her announcement did much to terrify the Oscar Committee.  They were probably like "Jada who now? Oh yeah, that chick from 'Gotham.' Whatever. Tell her to stay home, we don't care."

I think some official responded to her statement it seems like it was all aimed at driving some point home.

Stupid.  She's mad because her husband did not get nominated.  People should get nominated and win on merit, not be nominated to fulfill a quota, which is what will happen now.  Blacks will get nominated because they have to be.  Now, I am not saying black people shouldn't be nominated, because if they deserve to be, then they should.  But it shouldn't be forced.  Honestly, so what if the Smith's boycott the Oscars?  Plenty of others will attend.  Bullying and intimidation is not cool.

Its a very tricky balance to strike between merit and representation indeed.

She has a valid point. What many Caucasians refuse to acknowledge and they continue to defend, is the fact there is not equal representation by those in positions to nominate and vote. The Academy Awards are, unfortunately, a reflection of the segregated thinking, whether conscious or unconscious, that goes on in America every second of every day.

@Dennis, do you think her gesture will have an impact on the way nominations will be done in future?

How many white judges on BET awards or black miss america(no whites complaining they are not on there). There are black colleges/ black date sites-this sounds like segregated thinking. If even one person brings up color there will never be equality

Shadrack2 Yes, I do think her voice, along with all of the others will, in fact, have a favorable and lasting impact on future Acadamy Awards.
Vince (iggy7117) You are attempting to change the narrative. The question was about the Acadamy Awards.

Will she boycott the NFL for having mostly black players? Or does she want quality to be the deciding factor?
