Are you angry enough to contact your Congress about the GOP Tax bill?
then go to congress.gov/contact-us !! Medicare = $500 billion cut, SSDI = $60 billion cut. Congress is be coming for your life long hard earned benefits after showering the wealthy & corporations with trillions in tax breaks! Budget hawks insist Social Security and Medicare are “drivers of the debt.” The truth is that Social Security and Medicare Part A are entirely self-funded by workers’ payroll contributions.
Did you have a problem when Obama rerouted money from Medicare to Obamacare?
In any case, both parties have treated the SS and Medicare TAX contribution as Entitlements synonymous with welfare. It is not welfare nor is it anything but another ponzi scheme.
Ponzi because it requires new blood to keep it in the green. That is why in the 80s they included government workers. FDR and LBJ created these TAXes. And neither party invested the Trust Fund to actually pay the benefits.
The govt should get rid of the FERS and FEHS and come up with a plan for all workers to replace SS and Medicare.
Keeping the system alive is like putting a terminal patient on life support. The government workers and especially Congress need to be part of the system that exists in the private sector so they can show some empathy for those that retired on SS and Medicare.
The FERS and FEHS are unfunded federal budget liabilities and FERS is privately managed, it vests and is guaranteed the defined benefits. None of this is true of SS.
Right now they are talking about raising the age for SS to 70 years of age. That means that as long as you earn a wage you will be contributing into the system for well over fifty years. While the government workers retirement vests and it complete in 20 or 30 years.
Just because people that have retired under SS may rely on it, that doesn't mean that it is a good system. It is more like the govt forcing you to take drugs when you are young and then calling you a junkie when you are old.
The fact that the government workers also pay into SS doesn't put them on the same footing as those in the private sector. To the government workers SS is a bonus.
Also, as long as you earn a wage, you are forced to contribute into FICA. Even if you are retired and receiving benefits. After all how many people can survive on SS benefits alone. When you have another job after you retire you pay FICA, and if your other income is past a certain number the government will add your SS benefits into you AGI.
None of this is fair, nor is it reasonable, but that is what the democrats created and what both parties have run since 1937. Then in 2010 the democrats added yet another tax, Obamacare. There is now a Trilogy, SS, Medicare and Obamacare.
The point is that forcing the govt to continue FICA is not the solution. The govt mismanaged SS, Medicare Obamacare. They must figure a way to switch the existing system to pay the retired or soon to be retired. Create a new 1
The new system would be for the people under 50 or some cutoff period. This would mean that the govt would keep SS and Medicare solvent. The new system would be separate and be focused on the young, but the existing system would play out for the old.
I didn't even read your answer because it was a non answer. Thank you for playng. Move along now Lil' Doggie...
Yes, and yet we still continue to engage with each other,
Fact is they'll find Americans unwilling to see them cut SS and Medicare. If they need to find a way to cut spending because the tax cuts aren't resulting in more tax dollars (because of a growing economy), they'll have to look somewhere else for cuts. Congress may have just put itself in a corner. And to more clearly answer your question: I won't be calling anyone - there won't be a need for me to do that because the uproar will be deafening.
Ol' Bone Spurs POtuS GOP budget is an affront to decency, economics & math. It is full of both broken and false promises. It forces those who have the least to suffer the most and those who have the most to contribute the least. It is, in a word, unconscionable.
Immoral and reprehensible!
How does POS square his tax proposals, which would cost $6 trillion, with this budget proposal, which posits an additional $2 trillion in new revenue?
