Here I’ve exhibited some of my most recent art projects. What began years ago with doodling and coloring store-bought mandalas turned into a more passionate attitude toward basic shapes and the contrast of simple color schemes. Which is also to say that I am a minimalist but do appreciate modest complexity. I also aim for symmetry but symmetrical errors rarely stifle progress.
Some of the patterns are borrowed while others are hand drawn. The first photos below are the finished blank product which I intend to gild with some basic silver metallic markers. I’ve entertained the idea of making home-made gilding flecks out of aluminum foil for an even more platinum effect.
Most of my materials were acquired at a bargain from the dollar store. If you’re on a budget, you can get most everything you need for a set-up like this at your local dollar store (e.g. glitter glue, scissors, rulers, stick glue, pens, canvas paper, etc). Other things came through more careful selection of tools like a square and protractor.
Interesting Backstory:
The use of squares, straight edges, razors, and precision tools of this sort was learned as I was an apprentice floor layer. Laying vinyl and tile is a great way to become intimate with the world of simple shapes and contours. I find myself using the same heuristics as a tradesman during the creative process.
