It finally happened. One of my articles was copied!

   I wrote an article little over a week ago. It was approved and featured. Then, I received an email from HP staff that it has copyright issues, and they unpublished my article. I am like "What!!!??"  I checked out the other article and it is practically verbatim. Unbelievable. Now, what do I do.

      Write to the team, if it is from a reputed hubber they usually set it back up. I would write to Samantha or Robin. Then file a DMCA.

         We spend more time doing SEO and filing DMCAs than we do writing articles.

            When writing for an online audience and if you want search engine traffic it's all a part of writing, you can't separate them. Doing that would just leave you not wanting to write at all.

      What is the date on the other article? If is it so similar, and it predates yours, there really is nothing you can do.
      
      Honestly, the only time I ever had this happen was when I reposted an article that I thought I had removed from another website a long time before, but it was still published. So, it was a duplicate of something on one of my own websites. My bad!

         There is no date on the article. I check my article on copyscape before submission just to make sure. I do that sometimes on travel articles, which this as article is.

   There should be a red warning in the Author Center above your article. Click on that and it will give you instructions on how to file a DMCA complaint. Sometimes, the thief complies, sometimes not.

                           You can definitely backdate an article on your own website Sherry, if you are using Wordpress as your CMS. I don't believe that there is anything in the page source code that will identify backdating. It does have a legitimate use, but is also abused by blackhatters.
                           
                           I'm really disappointed that HP has deleted Kenna's article, as it limits her options for redress. I did quickly search online to see how Google deals with such matters. Apparently, they use the date that the article was indexed. This in itself is problematic as not all sites are crawled with the same degree of frequency or within the same timeframe.
                           
                           I think further input from the team is needed in order to clarify why they believe the other article pre-dated Kenna's.

         If you copy a paragraph out of a hub, and search for it in Google, it's amazing what you will find.

   With me, the goal line is always forward. It is something in front of me. Not behind me. I bet I've got more than a dozen copied right now. I'm much more interested in producing something new. I figure we're supposed to be content creators. I do sometimes file a complaint with Google, but only when I'm not working on something else.
