One of my articles has an over 200 percent increase in traffic. When I look at sources it looks like buzzfeed dot com was the second highest source. It's a little less than half of what my Google traffic is, but it is still a pretty significant amount. Although the hp stats on the article don't line up with the total views showing on my account page (likely from the rolling 24hrs). Is this a reliable source or more along the lines of a short traffic bump (like facebook or going viral)? I went to buzzfeed, but I didn't really know what I was looking at. I've never used this particular site. Either way this was a pleasant surprise this morning, as most of my articles haven't fully recovered still. I will enjoy it for however long it lasts
First off, congrats. Secondly, I don't know how to help you. I'm really just here to enjoy some of your buzz.
It's possible they (Buzzfeed) linked to your article in their text, but it is maybe more likely that someone posted a comment (you can, or could, comment Buzzfeed from Facebook) which included a link to your article, and the comment ranked high in 'likes,' and so is very visible at the top of the comments section on a Buzzfeed article.
It's a social media source, I believe, and so it isn't sustainable, but nevertheless, I forever promote my things on social media. Traffic is definitely always good, so long as it's not from something like a traffic exchange. I'm not sure if traffic exchange still goes on though.
Thanks for the reply! I was thinking that is likely what happened. I glanced through the first page of buzzfeed, but wasn't really too interested in search around the site at all.
I do not share too much on social media, but it's nice when other people do and it finds a boost every once in a while.
I had something similar happen. I had an article that had about 7-10 views a day for over a year after the first few months of good views, suddenly jump to 600-700 views a day which lasted for about a week. Almost all of the views were from variations of Google (from different countries etc.) with a few from the niche site itself. It's been on the niche site since shortly after it was written. The views have now dropped back down to their regular 7-10 per day. I can't figure out what happened but it wasn't due to any kind of marketing efforts on my part. I'd love to know if it was something that could be leveraged.
Something in that article of yours was being discussed in national or international news at that time, and so, people were searching for the subject. That's what I suspect happened in your case.
I didn't think of that - good point. I just wonder what that possibly could have been since the article was just a parenting article called Why Consequences Don't Work with Inflexible Explosive Children.
Another thing I can think of, someone mentioned your article by name in a semi-viral article. They didn't link to it, they just mentioned it by its title, and this could cause a lot of people to search for the article for a while.
That would be really cool! Wish it would happen to all my articles!
This has been my #1 performing article for a long time. It has done well on Google once I updated it and it finally made it to the first page. It has been stuck around 350 views for almost a year now (not that I'm complaining! I know people who would love to see those numbers) and I was thinking I might have to try and do some more editing/updating to it and see if I can get more views and then this happened.
All the different Google searches are always my highest source of traffic. I rarely get anything directly from the niche sites or social media (although this one does pretty good on pinterest). Bing and other search enginges have been gaining traction though, so I'm hopeful maybe I can keep some of the traffic going forward.
I think Wesman may be on to something. With such a specific article title I bet someone mentioned your article by name so people had to search it rather than click a link. I don't know if you've ever looked at what keywords bring the article up on the first few pages of Google or not, but I hope you can find some more traffic for that article soon. It's always frustrating when you have articles on the niche site that don't really improve traffic wise.
I would totally read that article by the way! Not sure I would have known how to find it in a Google search though.
Congrats! Still waiting for a viral surprise on one of mine. So cool.

Looking at the claimed biases of Google and Facebook, should these sites police their output for "Fake" news and such similarly labeled publishing? One caveat: Assume it is a "given" that "bot," (anybody's bot), output should be policed. For context of the biases...

My views, impressions and CPM took a nose dive today. My stats were doing well, slowly increasing, with some articles trending. However, my stats across the board dived after the latest TAG/HP announcement of moving the rest of the network sites to TAG. I am so bummed. Is anyone else experiencing...

I recently had a hub un-featured for engagement, as the half-circle indicates. I think this is an unfair practice and should be eliminated entirely. Here's why I feel this way:Our hub traffic is often affected by the time of year, holidays, seasons, and current events to name a few. If left alone,...

In the last few months, I've spent a long time updating all of my network hubs, improving the language and flow, breaking up the text, getting better pictures, fixing links, adding more recent research, updating stats, titles, descriptions, etc. My traffic across these 100 or so hubs seems to have...

I have read somewhere here that google search engines take into account the page-views to compute ranking. Is it advisable to delete non-performing Hubs, those with 0 pageviews a day, as a way to increase traffic in an attempt to increase ranking? How do you deal with low-performing hubs?thanks in...
