First of all, I could barely find the forum, I don't even know if I'm there now. I can no longer see any of you, which makes me feel like I am just sort of floating somewhere in cyberspace. If anyone can see and hear me, I have a question.

I finishing a book and I am writing it in Google docs which I like. The problem is bringing an editing tool like Grammarly, or whatever it is I am now using. (My memory is not so good, it took me five minutes to remember the word, "Hubpages.") Anyway, so far the editing software, or whatever it is I'm using, not only freezes my computer, but it takes days to edit each page and I'm losing MY MIND!!! I would happily download software, even at a cost, I just don't know of any good ones. I checked reviews, but it was all so confusing. People said Scrivener was very complicated. The thing is, I don't need a place to write, I have that with google docs. And I don't want to highlight, cut and paste and move 22 times. I just want something that tells me to take a comma out, put a semicolon in, to add an e and take out a hyphen type of thing... a robot editor. And yes, I realize that, had I paid attention in high school, I would not be in this mess, and yet here I am. Mea Culpa. sad

I can see you! [waves] smile

    Try this: https://prowritingaid.com/

You don't need Scrivener if it's already written - although I use it for all my writing. I couldn't manage without it.

Grammarly's not my favourite, but I did have a subscription to prowritingaid for a year. I think it's just what you want.

An alternative is to hire a professional editor via CraigsList or similar.

    Congrats on finishing your book.

    Thank you, theraggededge!

Prowritingaid is actually what I am using now in place of grammarly. They do not seem to be capable of handling more than 5 pages at a time and even then they freeze my computer to the point that a typewriter would be an improvement. That's why I was wondering if there was one that could manage a completed novel (approx. 106k words) if I paid for it.

I would LOVE to hire an editor, but I worry the book will be lucky to make $75 and with that scale an editor might be overkill.

Wonderful to see you Beth.  Forums have been dull without you.

Will Apse drops by every now and then  as does Marissa Writes (She sold her old account and opened a new one).

Will Apse, the bobble-capped Englishman. I always enjoyed his sense of humor tremendously.

How does one sell their account? Who bought it? That's amazing news. I didn't even know it was possible to do that.

I've a Prowritingaid subscription for 2 years now.  You're right about the freezing issue.  That's why I use the online platform with copy & paste method.  That's not for everyone, but it works for me.  Happy with it

So you’re saying you copy and paste chapter by chapter. I may have to return to that method. You’d think once we’d put a man on the moon it would all be down hill from there.

Huh, I’d forgotten I had this account. I signed on thru fb. Here’s a new question: how do you close an unwanted hubpages account? Lol

Hello!!! I am glad you found our forum.
I combine Grammarly (paid) and Prowriting (free). I am happy with this system. My clients seem to like it, too.
For my books, I get several people to look them over.

I went ahead and paid for the premium prowriter, but it behaved the same way as the free version. When I asked them about it they said they aren't set up to work with chromebook, even when cutting and pasting chapter by chapter. SO ANNOYING! Ugh! Grammarly seems to have the same exact problem so I'm not sure what I will do yet. I do not plan to hire an editor because I don't expect to make any money back. (sad face)

We won't see Marisa here anymore. She emailed me in December to let me know she'd deleted her second account. She said her heart just wasn't into HP anymore. She was persuaded by TimeTraveler2 to stay, but when she passed Marisa simply didn't feel the need or desire to stay with HP, so she deleted her account and moved on.

I am sorry to hear that.  Seems to be the way with a number of people who were very active at one time in the forums.  I often wonder how things are working out for Paradigm Search, Writer Fox, Relache, Mark Ewbie, Dale Hyde, Crazy Horses Ghost and others that are not springing to mind right now.  Seems like the Squidoo absorption killed the forums.

I am friends with Mark Ewbie on facebook, but I don't know how he's doing. I have my settings set to maybe 5 people and some organizations I follow. I'm so reclusive I'm not even sure how I got those 5 people on there. I think facebook is just trying to force me to try. I could really use some vitimin D at this point. smile

He is not very active on FB either.  I looked him up, and I think he makes 1 post a year. lol.  He had one of his works in an Atlanta Pizzeria,; I looked for it the last time I was there, but I think they changed ownership and it is gone.  Everything that made Fellini's pizza Fellini's is gone, including the pizza. Sad.

Hey Brave Warrior, that's a shame, but you gotta do what you gotta do. She will find success anywhere she goes.
