My article got deleted

   Hi everyone, yesterday I published an article "Elden Ring: What We Know So Far." Nothing has been plagiarized and I've followed all the rules, and I didn't get an email from HP explaining why.
   I republished it here, not sure if you'll be able to see it. Can anyone give me any pointers?
   If an admin could get in touch and explain, that'd be great, too.

         That’s my dad, I’m helping him with his HP account. I agree it’s a well written article (I have 50+ articles on LevelSkip). It got a warning and he had to manually re-publish it. Hopefully you’re right and it was a mistake. Hoping an editor or an admin can shed some light on the situation.

      Where did you get the photos?  Are they licensed for free use or did you just copy them?  Copying photos from other sites is considered theft and not allowed on HubPages.

            That image you are using is copyright by Kadakawa Ascii. You need to get written permission from them if you want to use it. Google images should not be used without checking if they are licensed for free commercial use or CC0 license.

               Video game screenshots are usually fine. I’ve used them plenty of times with no problems.

                  Wrong poppyr! You’re lucky the copyright owner didn’t complain. HubPages warned me about using a screenshot of an app many years ago. So I know what I’m talking about, and I’m trying to help others protect themselves.

                           It's not a law, Glenn. It's your interpretation of an event involving an editor.

                           As for OldRoses' post, she's both right and wrong. (And quite obviously not a gamer). Rightfully, one should always use photos we have taken ourselves. But ... if you play games, you'd surely know that for years, more than half a decade, game developers have included camera-like functions in games. As well as gone through much effort to enable as many ways as possible to share these in-game photos.
                           
                           So if the copyright is with the photographer, and I use a game's own camera to take "photos," am I the copyright holder? Can I use these on a blog? Or here? Or LevelSkip?

                              It looks like I overlooked who said what, Ced. Sorry about that. But my referencing your post means I respected what you had said. As for copyright law with gaming, I’m going to bow out of any further discussion since I’m not a gamer.

            Yes, the use of images and other elements from other websites is forbidden and Hubpages doesn't promote or publish these articles, so that must be the reason for your deletion.

         The issue of whether you can use game screenshots is a touchy one, long-discussed by game reviewers. I’ve read many different arguments over the years and I feel the most reliable one is that all screenshots are the property of the game’s publisher or developer.
         
         HOWEVER, most publishers/developers will also not issue copyright strikes to reviews, fans, etc, because there is a general practice of not antagonizing players. Anyhow, it’s free publicity. In very rare exceptions, a publisher will request for screenshots, let’s play videos, etc, to be removed not so much because of copyright but to prevent spoilers.
         
         As for Hubpages, I think if you look at Levelskip.com and what’s been there for years, you can assume:
         
         1) Screenshots are fine.
         
         2) Ownership should be attributed to the publisher/developer of the game. (NOT the site they were first published)
         
         3) These should be YOUR own screenshots. Not downloaded from another review.

               Sorry, I forgot to add this. If a game is not released, posting preview shots from major game portals/magazines is probably a no-no. Not so much because of copyright but probably because the developer is controlling pre-release info.

         Nope!  You can't just take photos from Google if they are not licensed for free use.  I have had my own photos "taken" from Google by others without my permission.  It doesn't matter if they give me credit.  I haven't given anyone permission to use my photos therefore their use is considered theft and it is illegal.
         
         You always have to have the permission of the photographer before you can use their work.  If you just copy from Google it's the same as walking into someone's house and taking pictures from their walls.  You don't have permission to do it so it is considered theft.

      A link by itself is not sufficient. You need to go the the source and check to be sure it’s not protected by a copyright that does not allow commercial use. Since you are earning ad revenue, your use of the image is considered commercial.

   A screenshot is not a photograph as it is a direct copy, and even if it was it would be a derivative work encombered by the copyright of the original.  Please listen to what you are being told about copyright.
   
   What is possible is that use of play screen shots is permitted by the publisher of the game, as it contributes to their marketing.  This is quite common.  They hold the copyright but waive it.
