Guys, what is the best approach to promote your articles on social media? anybody with a good idea?
In all honesty, there is no such thing as the best approach. It goes down to what you're after, the content you write about, et cetera.
I would focus more on the content itself rather than marketing. What you should be aiming for is an increase in organic traffic. Promoting your articles on social media won't help you with that.
I always promote my new articles and even old ones that I updated. I also interact with other members to gain exposure. Find your own niche and own it!
Pinterest I've found is the most lucrative, but the other platforms I find are a waste of time. If you've got millions of followers on Facebook or Twitter who are specifically interested in your content, those social media platforms may be of benefit posting on. Remember though just because you post and promote something that is interesting, that doesn't mean that everyone will want to read it. Only a fraction will, and on Twitter, the chances of your followers seeing your tweet are much lower if they follow thousands of other people themselves. The way the algorithm works is that if you interact with someone frequently, you get shown their tweets at the top of your feed. The most worthwhile traffic is organic, especially if you write evergreen articles that are helpful and useful and readers actively search for.
I've never had any luck drawing traffic via Pinterest, and limited success via Reddit.
I see a lot of folks in these forums saying that sharing your articles on Facebook is a waste of time, but I'm in a bunch of FB groups devoted to the topics I write about (hard rock/metal music and horror movies/B-Movies) and I tend to do pretty well sharing my stuff around in those groups.
I keep a notebook full of dates pertaining to stuff I've written articles about (album or movie release dates, birth/death dates of musicians/actors, etc.) so I can whip up a quick "Happy birthday to so-and-so" or "Such-and-such an album was released on this date in 1995" post and share it around.
Depending on the popularity of the band/person/movie I'm posting about, I can get a couple of hundred extra hits per day out of that, which is enough to make it worth the ten or fifteen minutes per day it takes to share 'em out.
I setup a Facebook gardening/DIY guide, but haven't had much success getting any traffic. I also setup a Facebook group about tools and my guides are listed on that. The problem with groups is that the content, unlike that on Facebook pages, isn't indexed by Google. I'm still hopeful that it may draw in some traffic if the membership grows (still only 320 and only a handful actually contribute) and it gains a bit of momentum. Any of the Facebook groups I'm a member of don't allow links and personal promotion.
I think it's worth spending a little time on social media, but not a lot.
Pinning and tweeting can be quick to do and occasionally there will be a lot of views, but most of the time there won't be, in my experience.
Some of my best traffic has come from other people posting my stuff, not me.
As usual, it's all about horses for courses and creating niches. There are certain topics that naturally do well on Pinterest, e.g. crafts, and others that do better on Twitter, e.g. politics and social issues.

Is it recommended to promote your articles on social media as opposed to waiting for organic traffic? which is way better?

Do you have an external blog that you link to your hubs? Do you write articles for an online magazine? And is it recommended to specialise in one or two areas - and connect a blog to these hub topics?I receive bursts of traffic when I promote my hubs on social media but I am looking into other ways...

A few years back when I did Examiner.com, the writers were always talking about where is the best places to promote our work. I feel like once you use all your social media accounts, hit up any forums related to your topic, reddit, and network with people you know, you're really out of places...

If we pump up our use of social media, i.e., marketing our articles more, will it help increase our traffic much? Or won't it make much difference because we are more dependent upon organic traffic? Something tells me we might have to wait out this drought. What say you?

I truly don't get it. It's a whole lot of pretty pictures. How does posting our articles to pinterest get them read?
