this is basic dos or command prompt keys                            cool tricks cmd trick at bottom

first open start menu, then run
    then type cmd.exe
if vista just type it in the mini search bar

now you know how to open it

for easy access go to start menu, all programs, accessories, then right click command prompt,go to properties and in shortcut go down to shortcut keys and type any letter or key u want to use to hotkey command prompt (also works with other programs)

    I set my as CTRL+ ALT+ C

now say u want to start a program up all u got to do is type(     start program name   )then hit enter u can put (.exe [start firefox.exe] as well) and the program will open

Now u usally u have differnet drives (C:\, D:\, etc.)
these drives contain the programs in your computer

lets say your in (C:\program files\nero) and what to go back   just type ( cd.. ) thats CDdotdot then enter

Now lets say you want to look in that program or file
just type ( CD program or file )and enter  C:\programs files\cd nero

Now lets say you dont know whats in that file just type (  dir ) and enter
this is just going to give u a list of every thing in that folder (C:\program files\dir)

Now u found the file u want to open just type the correct name from list(dir) .exe and enter (\program files\mozilla firefox\firefox.exe) now it should open  (.EXE, .COM or .BAT)

OK u have program you dont want in your computer just type ( del file )
example (C:\program files\del ares  it will tell u to confirm y/n)

Too clear the screen type( cls )

If u need help type HELP

Now say the cmd or command prompt is locked
    heres how too open it
open notepad and type( command.com) and save as anyname.bat  location desktop
now u'll see a file on the desktop with bolt nut pic and open it
Now u have access to CMD

Ok want to change password ,thats easy just type
       C:\Net user
       C:\net user (username)space *
    then its all yours

Want to cahnge ip address for what ever reason

Here's how to do it in windows:
          1. Click Start
          2. Click run
          3. In the run box type cmd.exe and click OK
          4. When the command prompt opens type the following. ENTER after each new line.
          ipconfig /flushdns
          ipconfig /release
          ipconfig /renew
          exit

          5. Erase your cookies in whatever browser you are using.
          6. Try the rapidshare download again.

Frequently you will be assigned a new IP address when this happens. Sometime you will, sometimes you will not. If you are on a fixed IP address, this method will not work.

What to shutdown a computer simple
    type (shutdown space -i) enter
now select who u want to shutdown

I hope i gave some new knowledge for u too use

My first computer was before Windows. DOS (MSDOS and DRDOS) were all we had. But here's a question for you. I have some dos executables that I wrote in QuickBasic and compiled into exe files. When I run them, they go full screen. Is there any way I can do a screen grab from them and later open it in windows paint?  Print Screen doesn't capture them. If you can answer this, I'll be very impressed!

To capture a screen image, I make sure the window I want to copy has focus (its title bar is dark blue in the case of Windows OS) hold down one of the Alt keys and then hit PrtScrn (the print screen key) then in paint I do Edit->Paste.
    I hope that helps

Thanks, but that's how to capture a screen in windows. A DOS program running in full screen mode isn't in a window, so the print screen key doesn't capture anything. Not to worry - I'll keep hunting smile

No, a .bat file is a set of instructions that one would normally laboriously type into a command prompt beforehand.

Said .bat file is essentially a time saver in it's most basic form.
