Duplicate content = ?

   The  HubPages terms of use say that duplicate content is not permitted. I would like to take content of my own from a blog that I have somewhere, cancel it there and publish it here.
   
   I am afraid it would appear as duplicate content for some time, because it always takes the spiders some time to find out something has disappeared.

      Leave the articles on your blog and use the canonical tag to let search engines know that the HubPages version is the version they should be using.
      
      Don’t use the remove URL option in webmasters tools or the robots.txt of your blog to remove the pages from search engine indices, by doing that you would lose any benefit of any links that point to the version on your blog. By using the canonical tag those benefits are transferred to your hub.
      
      Also in this instance I would forget about a 301 redirect because this has the potential of pulling people away from your blog.
      
      This way search engines can pick up the changes within a few weeks.

         No, I would not leave them on my blogs. I have two of them and don't want them to get any bigger.  I keep taking out old texts and either throw them out or expand them to post them as new, and so I noticed that sometimes it takes the spiders a long time to see what happened.
         
         However, your explanations are revelations to me. I did not know about those "canonical tags". (Those geeks sure have a way of finding names for their thingies.)

            That’s for sure, if you have ever had to read the manual that comes with a scanner you may have seen the acronym TWAIN which stands for Technology Without An Interesting Name, which proves that on their day even geeks can have a sense of humor.

         I would take the risk.
         
         I started hubbing with a different name, and when i got my google adsense account, i found out that my details were wrong. I then saved the 7 hubs i had written, which were on hubpages for about a month, then i deleted my account.
         
         Within days i pasted the 7 hubs into my new account and carried on. I haven't had any problems, as you might see from the number and types of hubs i've written.

            But yours was a smaller risk because the  HubPages administration might well have guessed what you had been doing.
            
            Also, I think I saw HubPages FAQ instructions that stated you could do that. I think it said that you can't change your user's name, but you could close your present account and open up another one under your new name.

   Read the TOS guys, duplicates are not banned on hubpages, they just carry a warning is all. I have two hubs marked duplicates because they are words to famous poems. No problems, both are doing OK.

      Yes, you are right. I found this:
      
      "You are allowed to post content on HubPages that is also published elsewhere, like your own site or blog - but you cannot place any promotional links on that hub.  Only you can see the alert message at the top of your hub. A pattern of publishing duplicate content will negatively affect your HubScore, as we like to reward authors who publish content unique to our HubPages."

   I tried deleting a hub and then publishing it under a new name, but I got the message that this hub URL already exists.  I noted that it takes 24 hours before a hub is finally removed.  Would it then be possible to post it under the same name or would I have to invent a new title for the hub?

      I think you will find you can never use the same url again,  you could though add something on the end such as 'part 2' or something meaningless . also the url and the title do not necessarily have to be identical
