Dream Lites Review

We recently purchased the Dream Lites Rainbow Unicorn for my six-year-old daughter. She loves it! This is the second product we've purchased by My Pillow Pets (the first was the original lavender unicorn) and it probably won't be the last. If you've been wondering whether you should actually spend your money on one of these products and get your kids one of their own starry constellation night lights, here's my unbiased Dream Lites review.

Plush nightlight turns your child's ceiling into a starry sky

From the minute my daughter saw the first Dream Lites night lights commercial, she was hooked. She HAD to have one. Of course, she didn't want it just because the Rainbow Unicorn was cute and cuddly and could make stars magically appear on her ceiling. She had a much more altruistic reason - her Lavender Unicorn Pillow Pet was lonely and she wanted to make her happy. Uh-huh. I've heard that one before.

But I had to admit that the Rainbow Unicorn Dream Lites was pretty cute. Dream Lites come in six plush clever, cuddly animal designs - Rainbow Unicorn, Playful Penguin, Snuggly Puppy, Fluttery Butterfly, Jolly Giraffe and Tardy Turtle. They're all colorful and designed to appeal to young kids who still like stuffed animals and night lights - just like my daughter.

The TV commercials and website say you can't find Dream Lites in the store, and if that had been true, I might have decided to wait until Christmas to get one of these. But then we were in a local drug store one day, and there it was - the Rainbown Unicorn. We already have two dogs, three cats, an aquarium, and plenty of stuffed animals. What was one more plush unicorn?

My daughter was anxious to try her new Dream Lites night light that night, so we loaded it with three AAA batteries, read our usual bedtime stories and then turned it on.

If you watch the Dream Lites commercials, you'll see very bright big stars on the walls BEHIND the kids in the commercials. I suspect that's because it would be pretty hard to get a good shot of the children's faces and also get the stars on the ceiling. If you have your Dream Lites on the bed near a wall, the lights will shine on both the wall and the ceiling, but if the toy is in the middle of the bed, the lights shine up and create stars on the ceiling. I don't think the lights are nearly as bright as shown in the TV commercial, but they will light up a completely dark room enough for your child to go to sleep. They're also visible if the room is dimly lit with another night light.

Each Dream Lites comes with its own unique star pattern that includes an image of the character in the middle of the stars. My daughter's Dream Lites has a unicorn head among the stars. You have to be looking at the right angle to actually tell it's a unicorn head, but my daughter doesn't care. Nor is she bothered by the fact that the crescent moon is as small as the stars so it blends in with them. These are small details that adults might notice, but kids won't care about at all.

Kids will love looking at the star pattern on the ceiling. The stars can be displayed in a steady blue, green or amber light, or you can choose an option to have all three colors rotate every 4 seconds. There's also a built-in timer that will shut the night light off after 20 minutes.

My daughter never had a problem going to sleep in her room with a regular night light, but now she looks forward to going to bed with her Dream Lites. She loves lying on the bed and watching the stars on her ceiling, and she keeps her Dream Lites Rainbow Unicorn right next to her well-loved lavender unicorn Pillow Pet.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend this product to other parents. My daughter loves her Dream Lites, and I think most other kids will love these, too.

Having a hard time finding Dream Lites? The best place to shop is the official website, Amazon or eBay, as these night lights aren't being sold extensively in stores (although I have seen some at my local Walgreens). But if you can't find them locally, eBay is a great place to look. You can find almost anything at this online marketplace!
