Why doesn't Barbie doll have woman's hips?
Normally, a woman should have hips 2 inches more than the waist line. It is not so with Barbie doll. The hips measurement is equal to that of the waistline.
Barbie is an artist's interpretation and should not be taken literally. She should be given full artistic license.
Barbie has been around a long time and is a wholesome icon of feminine strength, as displayed in her DVD releases.
My favorite Barbie movie is The Twelve Dancing Princesses. The music is heavenly and the story is a good rendition of an old fairy tale by the same name.
The very first model of Barbie dolls had a much more realistic figure. However, the "hipper" Barbie made it more difficult for her to be dressed and undressed, and as the doll was invented to be a "fashion doll" for little girls, they made her slimmer in the hips so that kids could change her outfits more easily.
