I have a very old pair of binoculars. They belonged to my great grandfather who told me once...

that he got them from his father. My great grandfather was born in 1888. So I figure they are very old indeed! I have the original leather case, but the top has disintegrated. I am merely trying to figure out what I should insure these for, as I don't want to sell them because of the sentimental value. Any idea where I should turn? They are marked Gavet FT Paris UROP 8x24.

Before you can insure them properly, you need to know the value.  Google "antiquities expert" along with your city name, and you'll find the right person to do an evaluation for you.

You also sound like you need to do something to properly protect this item.  It will likely be required by your insurer.
