Chess basically involves brain activity and vocabulary. In that line, Sudoku is very good game to increase your brain cells and keep you engaged. I like to play Monopoly and Cashflow too but that is more towards financial skills.
Well, as a strategy game, I would immediately think checkers, and as a brain power game, I would think sudoku. It is also similar to some 'moving piece' games like candy land, but I would say that there are many more board games that are quite like chess.
I just haven't played them all.
