My mother and I always enjoyed working Charles Wysocki puzzles! They are very Americana style, so for the most part it is pretty easy to see what you are looking at when searching for a puzzle piece. They have enough puzzle pieces to make it fun but enough to make it challenging!
Don't know brands, but Bits and Pieces magazine has lots of great ones. Noah's Ark was one I did...1,500 pieces. I like ones with distinct lines, colors, scenes rather that all one color, blurs, etc.
