Who's the baddest villain in video games? Just wrote my second hub on the topic. If you guys could check it out and leave your thoughts, it'd help me out. But really, Who ranks as the best villain in your mind?

it would depend on the criterias involved.  In terms of story wise, I would have to say Sephiroth from FFVII, Kefka from FFVI, and others.

if it's squarely on gameplay, then I would have to say Ghaleon from "lunar the silver story", Zophar from "lunar 2 (forgot the name of the ps1 sequel at the moment), Indalcio from Star Ocean 2, and many more.

If it's squarely on iconic status, then I would have to say Bowser from Mario, as he's always been the gold standard of bad guys in video games.

However, if it's a combination of the three, then I would have to get back to you on that. big_smile

haha. You make a valid point. In my own list I try to cover the entire range. From those classic bad guys (like Bowser) to the story (Sephiroth). I guess to specify, I'd have to go mostly on the storyline/plot of the gameplay.

The bad guys in games are usually the last thing stopping the hero from getting the girl or saving the world. They typically don't run away, and they are often the ones setting nearly insurmountable obstacles for heroes to, well, surmount. Even after the heroes run their gauntlet, the villains are ready for a throwdown.

One I most remember is Dagoth Ur from Morrowind. I won't say why, just in case you haven't played it yet. But near the end, when your character has to destroy him, you kinda don't want to, even though You know he's going to destroy the whole world.

Meherunes Dagon blows him away I feel, especially since you don't get to destroy him.

I thought the Irish guy in Bioshock was a really good bad guy, if that makes sense smile

Again, won't go there if you haven't played it.

ALBERT WESKER FROM RESIDENT EVIL 5 is one bad dude from a lot of angles. 3 stages of beating him! He killed a lot of people. He can move like agents from the Matrix, drinks poison to become a super monster creature and he is tough to beat from just a few tries!

Well I would have to say the Lich King from World of Warcraft as he exterminated an entire race of people, caused the world to fall into chaos.

Than their is the Joker who is just sick and twisted, and not the original joker the new joker from the Batman Arkham Asylum games.

I would say in my own opinion that these two have the makings of not only memorable villains but they give the audience the sense of tragedy and chaos in all it's forms.

How about Gabriel Roman from Uncharted:Drakes Fortune. I love this game and Roman reminds me of all the best cinema mob bosses wrapped into one.

Bowser of course! Pure evil and by far the funnest boss I've ever had to defeat.

My character on an evil playthrough of Knights of the Old Republic. Or, my character on an evil playthrough of KotOR 2. Or, my character on any other RPG that does a good job of letting you play evil.

For actual villains, though - Jon Irenicus (Baldur's Gate 2), Darth Malak (KotOR). Also Saren, Sovereign and Harbinger (Mass Effect series). From games not made by Bioware - Dagoth Ur, Mehrunes Dagon and Alduin (various Elder Scrolls games), the various versions of Ganon/Ganondorf (Legend of Zelda). Or, to go back a little further, the Guardian (from later games in the Ultima series). And, any others already mentioned.

Though, really, the best villain ever is clearly Mecha-Hitler!
