Dance: The Most Beneficial Form of Exercise

Updated on July 6, 2012

Dance as a part of your life

There is a bit of insanity in dancing that does everybody a great deal of good! Let me explain to you, how!

In this world of chaos and stress, there is one form of exercise where you can come out as stress-free and younger-looking than before. The name of the activity is ‘dance’. There are many people who do not find sufficient time to take regular workout sessions so that they can lead an active and smooth life. Once you start dancing on your feet, you will start craving for the same. Just make a move over any kind of music you like and you will notice that your feet are just not stopping. Thus, you enter in the soulful world of dance and music. You need not to find any particular space for your playful movements, just start dancing in your own room or your dining space or your bathroom or even your kitchen…what matters is that you dance and dance and dance.

Dance as a form of exercise and the science behind it

Dance is a wonderful form of indoor and outdoor exercise. It relieves your body from day to day stress and heals the entire system from inside-out, thus making you more calm and joyful. The moment you start dancing, your body starts releasing hormones called Endorphins (endogenous morphine) that function as neurotransmitters and you experience endorphin rush which refers to the feeling of exhilaration brought on by various movements of dance.

Endorphins are produced by the pituitary gland and the hypothalamus in vertebrates during exercise and various other activities and they have the ability to produce analgesia and a feeling of well-being and goodness.

Happy Dancing

Dance as the most beneficial form of workout

When you join a gym for your regular cardio workouts, you end up suffering from boredom, no matter how important it is for healthy living. Now, dance is such a form of movement where it is all fun and joy. You can either do it alone or in a gang, you can either join a dance studio or you can just swirl around in your personal space. The fitness from dance is also called as ‘beat-based’ fitness. If you dance continuously for just half an hour, you can shed off over 400 calories, which is quite wonderful. Dance is not only for physical health, the movements are highly beneficial for mental health as well. Moreover, the rhythmic movement to music is always a superior form of relaxation. Dance not only releases and frees our bones, muscles and joints, but also raises our spirits to the highest order. As a result of regular dancing sessions, people can get rid of various kinds of diseases and could lead their way to all-round fitness.

So, just jive up and jump into the world of goodness of mind, body and soul!

Dance is a delicate balance between perfection and beauty. ~Author Unknown

Reporting from the battlefield: I wanted to dance since I was six. There were "activities", but never ballroom dancing or any special dancing. Dancing for myself anywhere anytime, yes, but still it is not the same when you know some style and do it in a social way. Last year I started dancing Salsa/Bachata/Merengue (Cha Cha) and I took courses. I am so happy. I lost weight as well without trying to and making food my enemy. But happiness? Sometimes it is ecstasy, it is highly addictive though. So be prepared!

There are social benefits, as well, you meet people and we need that, this century is the century of loneliness. I love writing, but it is solitary and requires too much sitting on my bum. I cannot wait to go tomorrow and on Saturday and on Monday and on Tuesday to dance! You get the idea.

I would love to dance tango, but it is another campaign. I don't think tango is as good for cardio as Salsa, but I don't really know. I am eager to explore.

I encourage all who are willing to start dancing! You will never regret it!

It just makes so much sense. What a natural form of good healthy exercise. Trying to find a partner can be hard. There is so much great music out there that makes you want to move.

When I was in China I loved seeing the women come out into the streets and just dance - it was a community affair.

      Wonderful hub! Rated up!

This is so true. It doesn't feel as much like exercise if you're dancing. And it's fun!
