Children needs physical activity and a form of activity which they are not bored. Children usually enjoy playing with other children outside the house, and that is other form of physical activity. During winter and when the mom is busy and nobody will take care or watched over them (specially when they play outside the house), they need a form of exercise and fitness which will encourage them to move and use their body. In this way, they can enjoy and avoid being bored, as children usually get bored easily too.
During winter, dancing for our little boys and girls could be fun as well. Not only that when they are not outside and playing they can also do this in the TV room with other children as well. I assure you that it is not boring and they will have fun elarning new moves and steps. Music is fun for children, and moving your body is definitely more fun for them.
As a mom who loves to dance, it is usually a time for bonding with my children when we dance together.

Dancing in the house or enroling in a formal class
There are lots of options for your children, they will have to choose what kinds of dance do they like, hip-hop, ballet or just plain modern dance. Have you seen those little girls move with glides as little ballerinas? Some parents enroll their children to summer classes for ballet and dancing for fitness but I think dancing even in the four walls of your house is just plain ok. I am into dancing and as a role model for my children, I encourage them to dance as well, I bought CDs with good music so that they have no options but to dance. Even adults when they hear dance music will be enjoined to dance. Having fun with your children while dancing with them is best.
For me, unless you want to become your child as ballerina someday, then just buying good music or the new edition of Wii fitness is good, fun for you and the family as well!
Kinds of dances for children
- Hip hop -- This is very popular among youth and the kids. The colloquial word "hip" is the actual human body part. And the word "hop" is the actual "hop"(hopping) movement , in the case of hip hop however hip means intelligent or up to date and hop is the movement so together meaning intelligent movement.
- Modern dancing - this style of dance can either be jazz class. --This is a particularly technical style of dance that will help kids further develop their coordination and balance. Developing the childs own style is also a part of modern dance classes--.
- Music and Movement ---- this is good for young children and their parents because music and movement classes are an introduction to dance and music. Children become e comfortable with body movement-- plus it help them develop coordination and creativity--.
- Tap dance is a form of dance characterized by a tapping sound that is created from metal plates that are attached to both the ball and heel of the dancer's shoe. These metal plates, when tapped against a hard surface, create a percussive sound and as such the dancers are considered to be musicians.
- Ballet -- a classical dance form demanding grace and precision and employing formalized steps and gestures set in intricate, flowing patterns to create expression through movement.
- Figure skating-- as early as three years old, children are taught or enrolled for dancing -- one form is when you skate and dance to a music. it is a well disciplined endeavor and it is every moms dream to their daughter as well.
- Group Dance-- this is usually done among friends and siblings int he comfort of your house, dancing as a group and just following the step at the DVD. One example is the complete fitness which is distributed by Wii. You can also group dance with your mom or other people around you, this is fun and sure hit among children and the entire family.
Benefits of dancing for children
Boys and girls can dance alike as well. Whether you decide to enroll your children in formal dancing school or not, these are the benefits of dancing for children. It has been said that if you want your children to be a good dancer, start them young when their bones are still soft.
- It gives them self confidence and boost their esteem when they can follow the step.
- Dancing is fun especially during the winter time as children cant go out to play
- They developed discipline to follow steps
- They give them sense of achievement when they can follow the dance step as well
- In group dancing, they coordinate and cooperate well with others, making fun and having the value of accomplishing task in a group as well.
As a mother of seven children, I can assure you that group dancing is a best activity for children. it keeps them busy while laughing and having fun
- They develop balance, agility and appreciation for their body as well. they also appreciate music while dancing and they don't get bored with a background music.
- Children who dance develop poise, grace and good posture.
- Dancing is a good hobby, there is also bonding between parents and children, specially of they dance "together" for fun and fitness.
