Going After Your Dreams

Updated on August 8, 2013

Achieving Your Dreams

Every person in life has had dreams and goals they want to achieve, but going after your dreams sometimes seem like the impossible. I would like to share my dreams and goal I've had in my life but something seemed to hold me back from achieving my dream and goals. The thing that held me back was being addicted to alcohol, believe it or not.

Yes, alcohol put a halt to all my dreams and goals I had in my mind. Alcohol tended to be first in my life and held me back on so many things I wanted deep down in side of me.

Back in October 2009 I decided to surrender to my demons and start to try and live those dreams I had all through my life. I gave up alcohol for good and believe it or not, things started to change for me all for the better. I started to think straight for once in my life and I knew that what ever I had on my mind or what ever dreams I have had will be so much easier to achieve being clean and sober.

If your going to dream you might as well dream big right? I always had big dreams such as the house you see here, but over time houses that huge really didn't matter to me anymore, it was the location that I wanted and that location was to be near the Ocean or the Bay.

So, now that I was clean and sober, now was the time to make those dreams and goals come true. I knew where I wanted to live and now it was up to me to find that dream and make it a reality.

I searched for sometime for the right place for my wife and I to retire and be close to the Ocean and the Bay and after a long search I had found just the place. I made sure that this place I found was fine with my wife, because I would never do anything without her approval. I needed to know that what I chose was the perfect place not only for me, but for her too.

We both agreed that the 55 plus community at the shore was the perfect place to spend the rest of our lives together.

Letting everything go, as far as all of our belongings and downsize our home to be near the Ocean and Bay was worth it for sure. I knew we didn't need all of the material things that we had. These material things sometimes really don't make a person happy, but being where you want to spend your life and live your life simple is now my key to happiness and fulfillment.

I would never had been able to do any of the thinking straight or deciding on our new home with alcohol still in my life, so by stopping drinking alcohol was the best thing I or anyone could do if you know it is effecting your life and your families life as well.

Fixing the House Up

It seems like every house my wife and I buy we need to re-model it. That's perfectly okay with me because I have built many houses when i had my own business. My wife and I have always enjoyed working as a team and re-modeling our homes just the way we wanted.

It brings joy to us to see the final outcome when the home is all done and believe me, you really appreciate it when through knowing that you did it as a team effort and it is your home to live in. We took on this new challenge on the home we found when all other that looked at it thought it was entirely too much work for the money.

We always had a knack in seeing past the rough edges and seeing the potential these homes had when we put our designs and ideas into action. This particular home in the 55 plus community had everything, but was missing that personal touch and just need to TLC in which we had strong desire to give to this home.

It Never Could of Happened

It never could of happened buying this home by the sea if I were still drinking alcohol. Quitting drinking changes my life forever and I will never look back at that horrible past, for it only brings bad memories and heart breaking thoughts that I could of had all of this years ago only if I didn't drink alcohol the way i did.

So, a word to all that may be addicted to alcohol or drugs and have a dream or goal that you may want to achieve. It is very much possible to have a huge change in your life and fulfill your dreams and goals only if you take that first step and in my case it was surrendering to my alcohol addiction.

We have almost finished our dream home by the sea and look forward to moving down the shore full time and making those dreams a reality.

Next on the dream list is to have the same thing, but in Florida as our winter home, being I dislike the snow very much. we are both warm and sunny people so that is the only way to be in the sun and warmth all year long.

Do i think that can be done also? You bet it can and I will make sure that last part of my dream and goal in life come true.

REMEMBER: If you have a dream or goal in life, it is totally possible to achieve it with some determination and desire and hard work to fulfill it.  These dreams you must go after, they will not come to you.

Now, go after those dreams you long for and enjoy your life the way you had wanted years before.
