Happiness Rankings: Why the USA Never Dominates Global Happiness Studies.

Being a wealthy country means having choices. Americans tend to choose eating alone, driving a car alone, and communicating via electronic gadget. We call the gadgets smart, what do we have to say about ourselves?
Those Frickey Dicky Dutch
"I find only two things in this world to be completely intolerable. People who hate other people because of their culture, and the damn Dutch." A classic line from Austin Powers 3: Goldmember delivered by Michael Caine's character, Austin Power's "Faja" (Faatttther). Well, the Dutch have constructed a very happy society by all measures. Mainly they have done it by avoiding those things that cause conflict (racism, classicism, poverty) and engendering multi-generational dwellings that support daily interaction among all people living at close proximity. Add to that lots of time off and universal health care, and you have a happy group of people in that country. How they pay for it all is the kicker, but it can be done. They did it and we hate them for it. They can be totally weird and still be happy. Damn Dutch!

Happiness boils down to personal relationships with other humans. Yes, having a dog teaches you what humans prefer, since they have been bred to emulate the characteristics we love. Loyalty, genuine interest, being a good listener, and always up for a good time. Being social and working on a task together is what we're wired to do, just like a dog loves to run with a pack. Whether you are a CEO or sweeping the floors, it is your personal relationships that matter in the end. In the USA, the separation caused by individual transportation, wealth, and electronic devices can never replace the warm touch of a person. To gain on the happiness meter, it will require fewer consumer goods and more good consummation of time with friends and family.
The happy formula is simple!
