How Dreams And Goals Can Be Achieved In Life

Updated on April 1, 2011

The Day Has Finally Come That These Two Chairs Are Now Filled With My Wife And I - A Dream Come True!

Everyone Has Dreams And Goals

Everyone in life has some sort of dream or goal that they would love to achieve, but many of us don't really know just how to go about achieving those dreams and goals.

I for one, have had many big dreams and goals I would of loved to achieve, but there was one thing holding me back from achieving them and that was being addicted to alcohol. I fought the fight for many years with my demons and finally in October of 2009 I won over my demons and surrendered to my alcohol addiction once and for all.

Now being clean and sober I have a clear mind of how I was going to start to live my dreams and accomplish the goals I had on my mind for years.

I always wonder how dreams and goals can be achieved in life, especially my life.

Once I finally surrendered to my addiction, I was so happy I was for once in my life a free man. Free from what once was basically my best friend and what I lived for each and everyday of my life, and that was drinking alcohol. Sad to say, but very true.

I am sure that there are many people in the world that have dreams and goals, but just maybe they may have an addiction that's holding them back as as well.

I often use myself as an example of just how determination and willingness can win over an addiction and you can start to live the life you deserve. Alcohol or any type of drug can and will hinder anything that you may have on your mind that you may want to accomplish, which includes all your dreams and goals in your life.

Addiction is a horrible thing and if you never give up hope and believe in yourself you will be able to overcome your addiction, but you must first want to have a better life. If your not willing to take action and change your life then you probably will have a long and lonely and in some cases a self destructive life ahead.

I was fortunate enough to stop my addiction to alcohol before it was too late. I saw where my life was heading and I didn't like want I saw, so I did something about it and just didn't sit around thinking my life would change without any work on my part. I say work because surrendering to any addiction is most certainly hard work. Hard work because you have to be dedicated to your new life of sobriety and never let anything or anyone change your path or get in the way of you finding sobriety.

Sure, there will be your drinking buddies that may discourage you getting clean and sober because now they will be losing a drinking friend and most alcoholics like misery to accompany them thinking they are doing no wrong.

What Worked For Me

There was one main very important thing missing in my life while I was addicted to alcohol and that was living with a positive attitude. Positivity seemed totally gone in my life because I believe my alcohol addiction brought any of my hope or dreams I had to an end.

Alcohol tended to bring more negativity in my life then anything else, and I really never noticed it until I saw that my life was going nowhere fast, well except for downhill, I guess you would call it.

Here are somethings that really worked for me in achieving the lost dreams and goals I had:

  • Negative thoughts gone, and concentrated on Positivity in everything in my life.
  • Learned to believe in myself and love myself more.
  • Gave more credit to myself than in the past.
  • Made a plan of attack in accomplishing and achieving my dreams and goals.
  • Learned to except sobriety and never looking back at my past addicted life.
  • Began to get more excited each and everyday for my sobriety which was my first and most important dream and goal, to get sober.  Everything then will and did fall into place just as I planned.
  • Thought of what dream I would love to achieve first and went after that dream until it became a reality.
  • Worked on the second and third and so forth dream and goal and worked my hardest to accomplish those as well.
  • Learned to never ever give up hope or give up on myself.

Go After Your Dreams And Goals In Life

So, here you have myself that was addicted to alcohol for many years and never thought in a million years I would be able to beat my addiction to alcohol.  When I put my mind to it and just surrendered to my addiction everything started to change for the better in my life and my families life as well.

My biggest dream and goal was accomplished and then I went out to achieve my next dream and goal.

Anyone can achieve their dreams and goals they have in their lives, but you have to go after those dreams and goals and make them a reality.  The dreams and goals you have will never be accomplished or achieved without the work and determination of you.  It CAN be done!

I did something that I thought was the impossible for me and that was getting clean and sober.  I figured if I can do that and become sober again, I can achieve and conquer anything in life now.
