Walk Your Way to a Better Body! Buy a Pair of Shape Ups by LA Gear Fitness!

Updated on February 26, 2010

Note: Written by Cygstarz's Wife!

I'll try anything once. Well, almost anything! When it comes to losing weight and shaping up, I've tried just about everything out there. From Weight Watchers to ankle weights…you name it, I've probably tried it. Yes, I admit…I have contributed greatly to the weight loss industry…which, by the way, is HUGE! People spend mega amounts of money each year on weight loss products. They, like me, are searching for that one special product that will actually work. Though it has taken many years, I have finally succumbed to the fact that there is no magic weight loss pill, exercise routine or weight loss program out there. Unfortunately, in order to lose weight, one must eat healthy foods and yes, EXERCISE! Trust me, if there was a magical pill on the market that would, in fact, turn me into a super model in as little as seven days…you would've seen me on the cover of Women's Fitness Magazine a long time ago. Trust me on that one! Unfortunately, I'm still plugging along…trying my best to stick to a low-fat diet and exercising as often as possible (what fun!).

Special Shoes

The other day I received a call from my sister. Now my sister knows that I am trying to change my eating and exercise habits. She has always encouraged me and tries her best to offer me good advice and tips. My sister is very lucky when it comes to weight and metabolism. As far as I know, she has never had a weight problem (unless going from a size four to a size six is a problem. Blah!). Even after giving birth to three children (the youngest being only one year), she remains tiny. Lucky her! I simply look at a cupcake and my butt gets bigger. Go figure. In any event, my sister called me to tell me about a pair of special shoes that her friend recently purchased. "Special shoes," I replied…"What kind of SPECIAL shoes are you talking about?" Well, she was, in fact, referring to "Shape Ups" which are, yes, indeed special. Shape Ups are made by Skechers Fitness Footwear. They are designed to assist you when it comes to, well, for lack of better words, shaping up! I was immediately intrigued. After all, I'm probably the biggest sucker in the world when it comes to a NEW weight loss product or program! You would think I would've learned a lesson or two after the sauerkraut diet debacle of 2009…but that, my friends, is another story for another day. Besides, my intestines are still recovering and I'm not ready to talk about it yet.

How do Shape Ups Work?

Anyway, Skechers Shape Ups are truly unique. They are unlike any fitness footwear I have ever seen. Considering I have worn the same pair of tennis shoes for the past two years…I guess it is fair to say that I am not a fitness footwear expert...shocker, I know. Shape Ups claim to get you fit while you walk. Interesting….I've been known to walk…to the Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Parlor and back (just kidding). Skechers claim that when used correctly, Shape Ups can change the way you approach your daily activities. When used REGULARLY they can, in fact, enhance the way you look and feel as they will help to tone up your muscles and give you a sense of confidence.

So how do Shape Ups work? Well, in a nutshell, they were designed to change the way you walk. They feature a soft kinetic wedge insert and a dynamic rolling bottom. These features will make you feel as if you are walking barefoot on a "soft" surface…such as sand. Now I don't know about you, but in my opinion, walking in sand can be very difficult…a work-out all in itself! Here's a brief description of how Shape-Ups work:

  • The heel sinks comfortably into the soft ground as you step
  • You naturally roll forward as your weight shifts to the center and your balance is centered
  • Easily push off with your toe pads

Basically, Shape Ups make you incredibly conscious of how you walk. They make you think about each step you take which in turn can result in stronger legs, buttocks, back, and abdominal muscles. Oh, and they can also improve your posture…which is a good thing.

Now I have never tried Shape Ups, however, as I mentioned before, I'll try anything once! I just hope that my Shape Ups don't end up in the closet next to my Belly Buster Belt, Ab Roller, and giant balance ball. I do believe that most weight loss products work (they don't fail, we do!). Honestly, there really is no secret when it comes to losing weight. I believe that will-power plays a huge roll. In other words, we must commit to healthy eating and a regular exercise program. No ifs ands or buts about it! Sure, products like Shape Ups help us along the way; however, they are only tools. Tools that make a boring exercise routine a bit more interesting. I love to walk. I walk with a friend who lives in my neighborhood three times per week. For that reason alone, I think I will give Shape Ups a try. They are some-what pricey, however, as I have learned with other products, you can find decent prices on the internet. All you have to do is look. Good luck!

PS: Just so you know, LA Gear makes a special walking shoe called Walk-n-Tone. Reebok is also in the game, they make a special walking shoe called Easy Tone. Now you know!
