   When was the last time the health industry found a cure for anything?
   
   We're looking for a cure for cancer, diabetes, etc but all I see are treatments to manage health problems which, more often than not, must be taken for long periods of time. What cures come to mind?

   Cure? LOL! That would mean people would have to stop buying their medication (will never happen)! If they do find cures it is usually to the things that require taking the least amount of medicine to treat!

   i agree with peeples ... did you know that chemotherapy was introduced in the 70's to fight cancer... they will never bring anything new coz it hurts their business.
   
   Just incase anyone is looking for a cure for cancer ... look up Dr.Burzynski on google... a doctor fighting the system in the USA who is currently curing upto 25% of the most complex cancer patients with his patented techniques.

   And I agree with both peeples and arksys. As I've said before, the profit motive has an incentive to extract the most for as long as possible (it becomes almost passive income). On the other hand, a government-run Universal health insurance plan is highly incentivized to cut costs-- curing disease could do that. But I'm still interested in the cures our current health system has provided.

   Most innovations have been administrative approaches to management. We are seeing less invasive treatments to cancer through selective targeting of cancer cells in some types. We have also seen the HPV vaccine as a preventative for cervical cancer, and the mainstream anti-biotic treatment of ulcers from Helicobactor-pylori and giardia.

   1. Antibiotics for serious diseases like pneumonia, syphilis, and staph infections that used to cost people limbs
   2. The vaccines that wiped out smallpox and have almost wiped out polio (barring places like Afghanistan and Pakistan that are killing aid workers distributing vaccine, calling it unIslamic, not carrying if kids are left crippled instead)
   3. Guinea worm disease, a horrific mutilating parasite, almost wiped out by a charity Jimmy Carter supports. Probably eradicated in the next five years.
