I suddenly have a quarter size bald spot in the back of my head, what can cause this?

Usually it's lack of vitamin E. Eat more foods with vitamin E(spinach, turnip, broccoli, sweet potatoes, nuts,tomatos, etc.) and it should start growing back in a few months, if that's the issue.

I used to get those when I was under a great deal of stress. Try de-stressing.
If it was all over, I would say have your thyroid levels checked. That will also cause your hair ro fall out.
STRESS! I know that when I had a job that was particularly stressfull, my hair came out in clumps. I had to carefully monitor my stress levels in order to find some sort of relief.
Dandruff and lack of nutrition are the two most important causative factors of hairfall. Genetic factors are also responsible for causing hairfall.
Stress or the beginning of alopecia. I would not let it go, see a doctor.
