Is this an out of body experience?

   I fell asleep one night and in the middle of the night I became consciously aware that I was sleeping- I was not dreaming and everything was black. I was unable to feel my body and the only sensation I felt was a "floating in air sensation" this lasted for possibly minutes, until I noticed that I was not breathing. I attempted to breathe but I could not feel my longs- so I tried harder and I felt a falling sensation and finally woke up from the void I was in and my lungs filled with air.
   Is this an out of body experience, despite that all I could see was a black void? I felt like nothing but conscious awareness.
   To make it more interesting I later dreamt that I heard the voice of god speaking to an angel that was watching me and telling god what I was doing. The only drugs I take are an anti anxiety pill for major depression and anxiety- which should not cause an effect on my breathing. Does anyone have similar stories, opinions, advice, etcetera?

      This is so true. Because sometimes when my husband who is a Minister falls to sleep he wakes up gasping for air. He said it felt like his soul was leaving his body. And he said the Lord was talking to him before it happened.

         This sounds like Sleep Apnea.  And since The Lord is probable just some superstitious myth, I would go see a sleep specialist.   I'm sure football great Reggie White thought he was talking to The Lord too.....right before he succumbed to the disorder.

      Yes, but your pills appear to have caused your dreams to be vivid and quite active. Go back to your doctor to see if he needs to adjust your medication.

         My doctor said that there is nothing wrong with having vivid dreams. It is only a problem to have hallucinations while awake- with the exception of when partaking in the consumption of psychoactive drugs.

      yes, out of body methinks. the falling sensation is a common re-entry sensation. it may have been triggered by sleep apnea; it's easier to separate when the body is in distress ---not the ideal way to do it though. if you'd like to experiment, and see if you can recreate the experience, this site may be helpful (nothing for sale, they are a little evangelical, but the techniques are sound and the process is efficient) http://obe4u.com/

   Sounds a lot like sleep paralysis.
   
   Your mind is partially awake, and partially dreaming, but you can't move.
   
   Sucks. Happens to me all the time.
