Eat a diet high in vegetables, legumes and certain fruits. Go easy on carbs as they convert to sugar. Of course, avoid sweets such as pastries, pies and cakes as well as cookies and icecream. Absolutely no soda drinks. Even tho diet soda has no sugar, the chemicals used for preserving the product is unhealthy and so is the substitue sugar.
Write down everything you eat and add up the calories, carbs, sugar, fat and fiber. Go on-line and do a search for the AmericanDiabeticAssociation.com. A wonderful website, listing all foods and their information as well as recipies.
Avoid all processed food. It may be hard at first, but you can do it. Remember that any word you can't pronounce you should not eat.
Take very good care of the feet and watch for any sore that does not heal.
Best Wishes
