Help ! Is "mesothelioma treatment options" the best for the treatment of cancer ?
I need to know as i am about to refer a dear one for such treatment.
Mesothelioma is cancer of the lungs caused by inhalation of asbestos particles. Please make sure that this is the cause of the cancer and not any other cancer. It will be difficult to answer your question because you are asking if "mesothelioma treatment options" is the best treatment for cancer. If there are those options, it might just be for mesothelioma and not any other cancer not caused by asbestos. It may also occur in the lining of the abdominal cavity or the sac that surrounds the heart.
Cancer is a delicate disease and we should not just take general treatments for specific ones. It will be nice if you could qualify your question if the cancer is caused by asbestos.
I have a hub Called Mesothelioma Treatment Options, it will inform you of all the treatments.
The pleurectomy/decortication is a less radical operation, because it involves the surgical removal of the pleura, but not of the lung; in some cases it may be necessary to remove a portion of the diaphragm and the pericardium. This procedure can also be performed on patients that could not resist to a more radical operation as the Extrapleural Pneumonectomy ,and also the recovery times are much faster, but there is a high risk of relapse, aggravated by the impossibility of using high doses of radiation because of the possible damage to the lung interested by the removal of the pleura.
The Extrapleural Pneumonectomy rather results in the removal of the entire lung, a portion of the diaphragm and the pericardium. Is therefore a considerably more radical action than the previous one, then can be implemented only in patients who meet certain criteria; it is obviously essential a good cardiac and pulmonary functioning.
Mesothelioma chemotherapy: In the chemotherapy are administered anticancer drugs, whose function is to combat the replication of cancer cells. It can be associated with surgery and radiation therapy, in order to attack the tumor, or it can represent one of the most effective palliative resources ( to reduce symptoms such as pain and tiring out). The drugs most used are:
* Cisplatin (Platinol),
* Pemetrexed (Alimta)
* Carboplatin (Paraplatin)
* Raltitrexed (Tomudex)
* Gemcitabina (Gemzar)
* Vinorelbina (Navelbine)
* Doxorubicina (Adriamycin)
Radiation therapy: Radiotherapy involves the use of X-rays (in variable doses ranging from 20 to 40 Gy, divided in about a month) in order to kill cancer cells. It can be combined with surgery and chemotherapy, contributing to effectively combat the metastatic spread, or it can represent an effective palliative resource.

There are almost as many different types of cancer as there are people. No two are alike, so not one treatment is going to work for all cases.
