What type of massage and what kind of stretching exercise is good for back pain?
I recommend Thai Yoga Massage, as it applies gentle passive stretching and rhythmic movements to open up stiff joints and release neuromuscular tension. Stretching is not the issue, it is stretching properly. I advise being under the direction of a yoga teacher or professional who can teach you to stretch properly. If we stretch ourselves from improper postures and already have tense, short muscles we can make the situation worse.
Sports massage. If the problem is in the upper back the the therapist should trigger point release work combined with soft tissue release. If the problem is in the lower back then the therapist should do trigger point work into the lower back and buttocks, must lower back pain orginates in the buttocks, this should then be followed by pnf stretching to lengthen the muscles. Most lower back pain can be treated in one session.
