Why do starving people appear to have pot bellies?
I always see pictures and video of these starving children in Africa. Why do they all have pot bellies? I know it has something to do with their starvation, but I'd like to know the physiological cause.
The bloated abdomen is the result of a condition called kwashiorkor, which is defined as a lack of protein in the diet. This is a form of malnutrition more prevalent in third world countries due to the lack of adequate food and medical supplies; westerners would typically be treated long before they experienced these types of symptoms.

Usually titled 'Welcome to Hubpages' or similar, there's a video at the top of each and every article. May I turn it off? If so, how? I searched in the FAQ for this question and was surprised not to see it. Since the video has no connection to topics, why is it even there?

Ghosts are seldom seen by people, yet why do they appear to see us or do they sense our own spirits? Why is it that ghosts or spirits can see us, yet we may not see them, and do they sense our spirits, as well?
