    That's correct. Nursing was not a separate profession with a special education etc. before her.

    That's debatable, as the nation's first Nursing school was based on Florence Nightingale's efforts and structure in 1873, there were others before her that are known for their efforts and successes in nursing.  One such example is St. Louise de Morillac who in 1633 was known for her skills within her community and treated their community like a hospital, visiting people in their homes and nursing them to health.
