Any collagen based remedy being developed to inject into joints of people who have cartilage erosion
Since you are a researcher may be you can enlighten me on this. All over the world people suffer from erosion of cartilage in joints so who come researchers havent come up with a remedy for that? Any info in the industry as to what is being done?
I run a Rheumatology clinic for patients suffering from Rheumatoid arthritis and Osteoarthritis- both cause destruction of cartilage and bony erosions
There are two types of intra-articular ( inside joint) injections currently available. One is injection of corticosteroids such as depomedrone and triamcinolone- they both help reduce inflammation, reduce pain and swelling.
We've been trialling use of Hylauronic acid or Hyaluronan - this is a viscous fluid which is a normal constituent of joint fluid synovial fluid) and also cartilage - due to its high viscosity it helps cushion the joint and reduce cartilage erosion but trials haven't proven regeneration as yet.
The latter has had better success in eye surgery as a vitreous replacement and in reduction of damage after cataract surgery/lens implantation.
