    To lose fat the two keys are:

    1. Caloric deficit (energy expenditure>energy intake)

    and

    2. Muscle sparing (adequate protein intake and resistance training)

    Supplements and medicines help by either improving your nutrient partitioning or increasing energy expenditure, but aren't essential by any means.
