How long did it take for you to recover from Radio Frequency back surgery?  Did it help?

I have a torn L5-S1 disc and been told I needed surgery.  My dr said that there is a 50-60% chance of RF helping but I am skeptical.

I had back surgery 13 years ago, I don't think it was called Radio Frequency surgery though.  They opened me up, and removed the parts of the disc that were pressing on the nerves...

My disc was herniated between L4 and L5, before surgery I was unable to move my left leg.  My recovery was a few days in the hospital, I think I was barely up and walking after a few days.  It took about a week before I could walk normally (without feeling faint) - but I have been pain-free ever since.

The other two options I have is disc replacement or a fusion.  He said this is the least invasive method and that surgeons don't like to operate people my age unless they have too.  I am just worried that if they do the less invasive procedure, that I will have to have a fusion anyhow.

If you're talking radioablation, I had that done a number of years ago, had essentially no recovery time and have not had back pain to speak of since. However, I must caution you that you need to understand that everyone is different. This is a subject best discussed with your own personal physician. Get a second opinion if necessary.
