Why do people smoke even though they know the implications?
Smokers find it difficult to quit smoking simply because cigarettes are addictive.They contain nicotine which causes the users to develop deficiency symptoms when they try quiting.
I can tell you are not a smoker just because you ask the question:-) Most smokers smoke because they have to not because they really want to. Most have tried to quit at least once and many are just resigned to their fate. Nicotine is a highly addictive substance

It is one of the most difficult substances to quit, and some experts have said that heroin is easier to stop using.
