What are some things people can do to improve the quality of their life when unemployed?
If you still have health insurance, take some time during the day to get in those pesky doctor's appointments that would otherwise take you away from working. If not, use a little of your free time to start an exercise regimen and cook healthfully. If you look for sales, you can add plenty of fresh veggies and lean protein to your diet (in place of expensive junk food or prepackaged meals).
Find a gym and live there until you find your new job. At least you can lose some weight while you lose money too.
It is difficult to do, especially when one's financial security is threatened, but if money worries aren't desperate, this is a perfect time to work on developing some means of personal expression: painting, sculpting, gardening, etc.
The comment about going to the gym is also something all unemployed people should consider. Great time to work on losing weight, building strength,...and it relieves the stress associated with unemployment. Sandra Busby
It is important to get outside and be one with nature as much as possible.
Take pictures of anything and write about the object using your 5 senses.
We are currently dealing with this issue and have found keeping a set routine is helpful. This means a work schedule such as resume building, applications, networking and such matters that involve getting that next job. Also, we volunteer so that we around other positive people. We have the time to help out in ways we cannot when we are working. I agree with Brainy Bunny, take advantage of the insurance grace period to get your annual checkups in and any medication you need. We also workout every other day and walk, swim, or do some other acitivity in between.
Three things that I found useful when I was unemployed (fortunately for a short time).
- Running outside in the nature, I still do it, but when unemployed you can do it during the day and enjoy the sun, a great way to have some time to think, stay fit and feel good with yourself.
- Enjoy cooking, I do not like to cook, it is not one of my favorite thing to do, but while unemployed I enjoyed cooking because it is a time you take for yourself and you are focused on achieving a goal, the goal is doing one of the best meals for yourself.
- Writing or doing something you like. One of the things I did was studying and writing, it helped to be active and if you are going to job interviews you can talk about what you read.
Use the time to go within yourself and discover what your true passions, ambitions and fears are. In this sense, see unemployment as a gift... A catalyst to move you forward in the direction of your dreams!
They can develop their hobbies and utilise them to make money instead of wasting their time , so that they may feel satisfaction in their life.
