How do you treat laryngitis?  A throat which is sore and hoarse?

I had thyroid removal surgery a few years ago and tend to have my throat get sore a lot. Not like a cold sore throat but more like when you've been yelling a lot, except that I haven't.  I also get my voice scratchy and hoarse.  I take allergy medicine and use drinks and throat drops but I'm wondering if there are any other ideas?

I get those all the time!  I really like Halls Fruit Breezers.  They are my number one go to item.  I get sore throats all the time.

    Other things to try are:
Strong peppermint tea - use two teabags rather than one and heat the water with the bags in it
Gargle with salt water - 1/4 tsp in 8 oz warm water
Use a neti pot as it cleans the post nasal drip problems up a bit that can cause a sore throat.
    Thayers Slippery Elm Lozenges
Eat Jello or Gummi bears - anything with gelatin or pectin seems to coat the throat.
Treat allergies - is a nasty season due to the mild winter.  There are a lot of OTC non-drowsy antihistamines out these days.
Treat acid reflux if you have problems with it as the acid irritates your throat
Drink ice cold water to numb your throat

Another random one is get some homeopathic lozenges from a place that sells a full range of homeopathic things - around here Wild Oats is a good place to go.

These are great ideas.  Thanks so much for taking the time to answer the question.  I am going to try all of them!

I suggest slippery elm tea. It soothes the throat and vocal chords

I will get some of that.  I'm guessing it is available at the health food store.
