Which is better...a quick death, or a lingering one?
If you were going to lose a loved one, and there was nothing that could be done to prevent this loss, which would you choose for them?? A sudden death ( heart attacks, aneuryms...not horrific accidents) OR a terminal illness that would allow them to live longer, but their health would continue to deteriorate to the point of possibly Hospice Care to help control their pain and associated complications in their last week(s) of life . Sudden would mean NO good-byes, while the lingering would allow for them.
Thanks, Tami....I'm a hospice nurse, and a recent patient's family and I were discussing this. They'd just lost a family member to a sudden heart attack, and now they were watching their Mother slowly die. Which was easier on everyone concerned?
I have a new answer based on your details -- My mom was at peace, and not in pain... which was an absolute blessing for her...I think the sadness of seeing a loved one endure suffering and knowing they just want to go, that must be so very sad.
