Why is eating so much meat a part of our Western society?
I would think because the new settlers that came to america had to kill fresh meat and store it to sustain them through the winter. There are still people who live like this. They live in remote places such as Alaska and spend the summer months preparing for winter by hunting and fishing and gardening and canning their vegetables for the winter. In other words, it started out as a necessity.
Western countries have cold weather and meats are the only ingredient to keep the body warm and bring energy to the body. In Asian countries, most people eat rice, vegetables and less meat because the weather is either rainy or damn hot weather. So, more people eat rice to gain strength , fuller tummy.
