What are the 10 sublimal messages that parents convey to make their adult children utter failures
in life?
Oftentimes parental expectations in our formative years influence what we eventually become and achieve for good or ill. Many times children, regardless of their original socioeconomic and sociocultural background, are unsuccessful in life because of negative and/or low parental reinforcement and expectations whereas many children, regardless of original socioeconomic and sociocultural background, achieve GREAT heights because of positive and/or high parental reinforcement and expectations. What ONE'S parents think and believe about HIM/HER, HE/SHE eventually becomes.
Subliminal -- not direct language spoken to effect esteem and self worth, Right?
One parent berating the other.
Talking bad in front of a child about other people.
Being generally judgmental of others.
Complaining regularly that it was somebody else that causes you problems.
Not accepting responsibility
Underachieving themselves.
Dishonesty
Not praising any good work when it is known
Not speaking highly of those that do achieve
General unhappiness.
And sadly to say consoling failure with words like that is OK I still love you. Here is a funny one. While I was growing up my mother thought it kind to say things like it is OK if you fail at music, art and handwriting because you just cannot do it well.
Cool question that I have given much thought to raising mine and other's children.
This answer is immensely awesome. Thank you Eric for stopping by and responding!
