Is eating baby powder and constantly sniffing laundry detergent an addiction or vitamin deficiency ?
For example the show "My strange addiction" shows people eating all of these things that weren't made to consume. I've heard of pregnant women craving dirt, what does this mean?
Their body is trying to tell them that it needs minerals, which are essential for the maintenance of health and life itself. The cravings for dirt and clay, in particular, are more common. Our processed food diet is very deficient in the trace and major minerals our body needs, because our agricultural soils are worn out. Our plant foods look fairly healthy, but they only require 9 minerals, but our body needs 60 minerals. If they are washed out of our soil and are not replaced with cover-cropping, rock salts, and commercial fertilizers, we aren't getting them. This explains our declining health, but our pharmaceutical-based medical schools and scientists aren't trained to point out simple ways we can supplement our diet. If they or even the public health authorities alerted us to this fact, then they would have less disease to treat and less profits. So, we must figure it out for ourselves and take action to protect our health.
It is a condition called Pica . In some cases it can be as simple as a deficiency that triggers it initially but it goes far beyond just that. There are mental health issues behind it also so it is classified as an eating disorder. Google "Pica" and you can learn a lot about it and the causes, treatments etc.
