Do you believe in the concept of 'genius hours'?
Basically, 'genius hours' happen when your mind is at its most creative and most functional. During this time, you can do things that you normally can't do when say, for example, you're a night person and you're forced to do your work during the day. If you don't work in your genius hours it can affect the quality of the output of your work. Working during genius hours also supposedly make the work faster since your mind is energized during that time.
My genius time comes suddenly and goes suddenly. I believe what is happening is that my mind suddenly get more creative and alert. I usually experience this when I listens to weird music. (example: Enya's songs)
