Compare 60-70 years of age in the 21st century to 60-70 years of age in the 20th century?
Social Security was set at age 65 when life expectancy was 62, back in the 1930s. It was a rip-off because most people wouldn't live that long and those who did wouldn't on average live much longer.
Now it is at risk of going bankrupt because life expectancy is in the 80s for most, and real disability rates have declined because of stents, arthritis drugs, knee replacements. So many in their 70s today are in better health and contribute more than those in the 60s 50 years ago.
