iPad Treadmill Mounts - Adjustable Treadmill iPad Holder Stands

Updated on August 15, 2014

iPad Stands and Holders For Treadmills

A treadmill is the most popular form of exercise equipment but it is also quite possibly one of the most crushingly boring to use too. If you've ever been in a commercial gym you always see a row of television screens set right in front of the treadmills and the reason for this is to prevent their members from losing interest out of sheer boredom.

Yes, you can listen to music, or the radio, or try to use one of their treadmill book holders to read a magazine whilst working out. Wouldn't it be better though to be able to take advantage of all the awesome features of your iPad instead? Watch a movie, follow a training routine, use a treadmill workout app, hey even Skype with a fitness buddy anywhere in the world, the options are endless once you attach an iPad to a treadmill using an ipad treadmill mount.

There are numerous solutions on the market today which make using tablet computers in the gym or on your home machine so much easier. The following are a selection of some of the better ideas which will not only hold the device securely in place but also provide adjustment options to provide the best height and viewing angle which is important to ensure you are not getting glare on the screen or tilting your body at an unnatural angle to see better. You are basically looking at a choice of two different styles : those which mount onto any available bar space, or those which hook over the console Both are excellent choices although if you use the buttons on the console a lot during your workout you might want to consider something like the first mentioned product below.

The Best iPad Treadmill Mount

Ram Mount Yoke C-Clamp Mount for Apple iPad (RAM-B-121-AP8U)
Ram Mount Yoke C-Clamp Mount for Apple iPad (RAM-B-121-AP8U)

If you are going to mount an expensive piece of gadgetry like an iPad onto a treadmill, or anywhere else it will be suspended in the air, you want to find the most stable, secure and safe holder to prevent any little accidents causing you big headaches.

Well you can stop looking because the RAM C-Clamp mount for Apple iPad is that product.

This mount is designed to firmly hold the Apple iPad Wi-Fi 16GB, 32GB and 64GB Apple iPad Wi-Fi + 3G 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. It features a unique design which is made to give superior mobility, strength, adjustability and versatility. Its patented rubber ball and socket system is designed to work as a universal clamp which will fit anywhere and provide a secure mount for iPad devices in a wide variety of locations.

As an iPad treadmill mount this device is superior to others as it provides a means of isolating the device from shock and vibration damage which is highly desirable on a running machine which typically does a lot of rattling and vibrating, especially on less superior home models.

This is made to fit both Apple iPad 1st generation and second generation models.

iPad Cup Holder Mount For A Treadmill

Great For The Car Or A Treadmill With A Cupholder

If you can use it with your particular running machine, then the RAM cup holder mount for ipad devices is another ideal alternative to the above option. The nice thing about one of these cupholder mounts, is that you can also use them in the car too, which is ultimately what they were originally designed for. If your treadmill has a cupholder on the console area which many of the more expensive models do, then you can certainly use one of these rather than going with the clamp option above.

Using A Treadmill Reading Rack As An iPad Holder

Another alternative people like to use is to make use of a treadmill book holder and turn that into an iPad holder instead. The magazine holder which comes with some treadmills is often not fully up to the purpose but thankfully you can buy a book stand for treadmills which slots over the console for under $20 and sometimes under $10 if you look in the right places (I list a popular sub-$10 one below).

Treadmill iPad stands, or book racks as they are actually listed as, slide over the computer console or fitness monitor. They are not screwed in or otherwise attached, they just hook over the back of the monitor to hold it on. As such, when you are using one of these for an expensive item like an iPad you will probably want to do some modifications of your own to make sure it is more secure and to ensure the iPad is firmly held in place on the book stand.

A good solution here is velcro and superglue believe it or not. Buy a cheap iPad sleeve or low cost case and glue some velcro to the back of the ipad sleeve and to the plastic book shelf. It'll hold it on nice and firm without marking up the treadmill or the iPad. Cheap iPad sleeves and rolls of velcro are only a couple of bucks and the extra security is well worth it,

This clear acrylic book holder, magazine rack and soon to be treadmill iPad holder can be bought under $10. It will mount directly over the console or feedback monitor without the need for drilling or fastening. Since you'll be using it as an iPad mount you might want to hold it in place with more stickyback velcro or rubber bands work well too for a solution which will not mark up the console.

Deluxe Leather Case with Built-in Stand for Apple iPad (Red)

Here is a nice cheap iPad case which will do the job nicely as an iPad holder for a treadmill. Amazon has many other like this under $10 in the ipad case and covers category.

VELCRO Brand, Sticky Back, 15' x 3/4 Tape, Black (VEL101)
VELCRO Brand, Sticky Back, 15' x 3/4 Tape, Black (VEL101)

Sticky back velcro makes the ideal way to attach the ipad holder to the book rack. If you don't mind sticking things directly on the monitor (and it's large enough, then you can do without the book holder stand altogether. Velcro is a great medium for this as it makes a really strong holding point but also allows the case and iPad to be easily removed afterwards.

This would certainly come in handy. I once watched a guy go off the side of a treadmill at a gym near me and take his iPad with him. Ouch -- I felt sorry for the iPad. LOL :P But seriously, I like the Velcro idea too.

What a fabulous idea! Treadmills are so boring, and having a TV in front to watch is Ok, but reading is better! That way, you can work on your mind and body at once.

@anonymous: I guess that would depend on the type of elliptical. If you don't mind obscuring the console then any of the reading racks which fit over that will work just fine. Just make sure you have a way of holding it and the iPad firmly in place (velcro and a cheap case works great). If there is a fixed bar to attach to then the RAM mount above would work fine. I can imagine the SurfShelf (look on Amazon) which is primarily for hooking up a laptop to just about every gym machine out there would also work fine with a little modification. Of course, if its for a home gym, you could get a floor stand or a wall mount too.
