The Countdown Begins

The Christmas Season is fast approaching. Christmas displays are springing up in stores everywhere! As soon as Thanksgiving is over, the Christmas decorating begins! Will you be ready? What can you do to make your home festive for the season?

The center of Christmas decorations is the Christmas tree! Do you need to replace that old Christmas tree? Is your old tree a fire hazard? Are the leaves and branches on your tree sagging or droopy? You may need to look for an updated tree - a fresh new look. If this is a special Christmas with lots of family expected to arrive, purchase a new tree for your home and awe them all!

Decorations for the Christmas Tree

Decorating the Christmas tree well is very important. Check your current tree lights to see if they are chipped, have burned out bulbs or need to be updated. Have you changed your color scheme this year? Do you have enough light strands to completely cover the tree?

Choosing your ornaments can be fun. Choose a theme and have fun decorating. For years, we used ornaments collected by the entire family. Our tree was a hodge podge of memories. Since our children have left the nest, we have changed our decor. This year, our grown children will receive their ornaments to carry on the family tradition in their new homes.

Don't Forget The Front Door

One of the focal points of Christmas decorating is the front door! A beautiful Christmas Wreath will be enjoyed by all as they enter your home! If you find one you really like, use it again. Storing it in a box or protective wrapping should keep it fresh for another year. Do you prefer a new wreath each December? There are many beautiful ones to choose from!

The Entry Hall To Your Home

A Christmas Wall Hanging can carry your Christmas decor from the front door into your home. I often take down a picture to hang a Christmas picture or wall hanging in my home. These fun decorating items brighten any wall and remind you as you walk by to celebrate the Season!

Cover Your Tables For Christmas

Tablecloths, placemats and table runners are key elements of a Christmas theme in your home. Your family will remember these carefully selected items for years to come. It is possible to coordinate your tablecloth, placemats and table runner or choose complimenting colors and designs to make your own theme.

Each year is different in our home. It is possible to casually decorate the breakfast nook and use a more formal decor for the dining room. When decorating, consider who will visit your home and what meals and activities you will host during this important season?

Christmas Tableware

After many years, I finally have a set of Christmas dishes. They are simple in design and go well with most Christmas decor. It is so much fun to use these special dishes during the month of December, enjoying the rich colors and design. Find a set of special Christmas dishes for your Christmas celebrations. Your family will love their meals on this seasonal tableware.

Centerpieces For Your Christmas Table

Every table needs a centerpiece as a focal point of the table decor. Get creative and find a center piece that suits family as well as your chosen table coverings. Candles make excellent centerpieces grouped together in clusters.

Outdoor Decorating

Don't forget to decorate your lawn with Christmas joy. White lights, Christmas scenes, colorful strands of brilliance, and outdoor Christmas trees are just a few of the possibilities for your front yard. Simple porch lights or lights that outline your property are all expressions of creativity for the season.

Lights in the front windows add a warm touch to any home! Candles with batteries or candles that plug in your wall socket will provide that illumination on a dark night!

My husband surprised me with a live Christmas tree in the front yard! He filled the tree with white lights and it makes quite an elegant appearance in our front yard after dark. It is simple yet elegant. He secured it with fishing line and dug a small hole in the grass to hold the tree firmly. A single extension cord to the garage provides the necessary electric light source.

Other Ideas For Your Home

Your family will love wrapping up in a Christmas afghan while watching a football game on television. Choose an afghan to compliment your couch or comfortable chair. Show off the afghan on the back of the couch or chair. Drape it over the arm of the sofa and make it easily accessible on a cold winter night.

The Kitchen

Add Christmas kitchen towels and floor mats to your kitchen for the season. Drying dishes is a whole lot more fun with a Christmas towel.

The Bathroom

We must not forget the bathroom. Use colorful Christmas bath towels in your bathrooms. Add festive Christmas soaps for your guests. Leave festive Christmas tea towels for hand drying. Your guests will enjoy your fun ideas!

Staircase, Mantle, and Doorways

Use garlands to brighten staircases, fireplace mantels and doorways. Paired with ornaments or other decorative Christmas items, a garland can be a focal point anywhere. Using similar decorations on your Christmas tree and mantel can create a pleasant theme for your home decor. To add extra style to your home, use colors that compliment the room and furniture. Have fun!

There Is Still Time

Many of you have time to make a special gift for a loved one or a decorative item for your home. Choose a kit that insures you will meet your deadline. Enjoy the sense of accomplishment as you share or display your creative work!

Planning Is Essential

We have all had those moments when panic hits us! How will I get it all done? Planning is essential to a peaceful decorating season. Have fun finding those special items for your home. Whatever you do, do it well. Doing it well requires planning ahead. Merry Christmas EARLY!
