Who is Peter Griffin?

Peter Griffin of Family Guy : A Great Dad or A Dud? You may have wondered who is this man? Peter Griffin is a character in the Family Guy Show by Fox Station here in the United States. He is the head of the family and the protagonist in the comedy show entitled "Family Guy" featuring his family -- The Griffin family including a dog by the name of Brian. Peter Griffins wife's name is Lois Pewterschmidt and he is the father of Meg, Chris and the very famous Stewie. According to wikipedia "he is voiced by the shows creator and lead writer, Seth Macfarlane, who performs his voice with a pronounced Rhode Island accent. MacFarlane conceived Peter and the rest of the Griffin family in January 1999".

Description of Peter Griffin

• In his character he is an overweight man with an Irish descent with ablue collarjob and with an accent of one that comes form Rhode island and Eastern Massachusetts accent. A dad to three children and a husband, plus a close friend to three persons in the neighborhood. They live in the neighborhood of Quahog, Rhode Island -- a fictional place -- similar to the true place Cranston, Rhode Island.

How Seth MacFarlane -- the creator of Family Guy came to create the character of Peter Griffin

In one of the episode of the show "Peter's Two Dads", -- it is revealed that Peter's biological father is an Irishman named Mickey, which is based on the heritage of MacFarlane's biological father--.

According to the creator of Family Guy -- Seth MacFarlane said ( as quoted in his interview), "When I was growing up, my father had lots of friends: big, vocal, opinionated New England, Irish Catholics. They were all bursting at the seams with personality, and Family Guy came out of a lot of those archetypes that I spent years observing."

A Great Dad or a Dud? The question is ; Is the character of Peter Griffin, offensive, normal or is the show just a reflection of the example of a family here in the US? Is Peter Griffin a good dad or a dud, or a good family guy? Should a show be a reflection of  what is happening in real life?  

The success of the show is undeniable and it is a top rating show plus the creator Seth MacFarlane said to be fetching 100 million USD per season as per the interview by Larry King at Larry king live in CNN.

To be honest, I watched the show from time to time, but there are times when it is bordering on what is acceptable in my opinion. Others see Peter Griffin as a lazy man who just sit down and watch TV and make fun of everybody specially his children. He holds the remote to the TV, a typical man.

Peter Griffin makes fun with everybody :

• He also makes fun of his wife  Lois and one time together with Stewie when they were supposedly be binding together as father and son, they drowned Lois in the river.  There are times that he is sweet to Lois as well specially when the time that he shows the dad of Lois that he loves her and cannot accept the money the dad of Lois is offering him in exchange of his love for Lois.
• One time when they were out and he was teaching Meg how to drive, they lost control and hit a cable TV station, and forced Meg to own what he did and promised Meg to give her another car. When they were choosing a car for Meg, he bought a military tank instead, but later on used that to bomb a store which is creating electricity shortage within the area.
• One time he beat another boy because that boy is disrespectful at him, Lois made him apologize to the parents of the boy, but later on he befriend the boy named Kyle.

There are times when he is sweet ;

• There are also times when he is sweet like when he bonds with his son Chris at the wilderness. He also bonds with Meg -- his daughter but most of the time he makes fun of her -- wondering why Meg was not born a boy and why she is not pretty. Men of course in every society prefer a son than daughters.
• But one time also, he has to disguise as a man who fell in love with Meg just to show off at school where Meg that she is hot.
• Most of the times, he farts at people and one time he farted at Meg.
• There was one time when he was considered a retarded and he likes it very much and he make use of his retarded state so that he can get away with things, but then when the state get his children away from him, he also tried his best to get them back in the courts.
• He is also a good friend to Brian, but there are instances when he makes fun of the dog as well

It has been said that television shows are reflections of the society in which the show is shown. Peter Griffins character as a family guy is amusing, cross the borderline at times on what is the typical dad in American society. He has a soft side and a funny plus amusing characterization. There are some people who are not offended by the show but there are also some who don't watch it at all.

The fact that it is rating very well and very popular show, people are amused and like the show. Personally, there are situations where it is funny, but there are times when it is beyond what is acceptable.

TV shows specially a show like this which revolves around a family should be more cautious, there are some people which are offended and there are some episodes where it is off already. The show is generally have racial remarks and make fun of some sectors in society like the Jews and Jesus Christ.There was one episode where Chris the son of Peter Griffin is said to be dating a retarded and when he asked who is her mom, she said Sarah Palin -- a Republican who lost in the last 2008 Vice Presidential election in the US. In all the episodes I watched, I never heard them have remarks against the Muslims.
