Are Memorial Day and Veterans Day the same?

I used to think that Veterans Day honored only veterans but that Memorial Day honored all our loved ones that have passed away, not just veterans. Is that right or wrong? Does Memorial Day focus more on veterans, too?

I think memorial day is about remembering those we have lost, veterans, friends, and family. I think veterans day is a day to celebrate the honor of serving our country and to celebrate those those who have given so much for our freedoms.

Memorial Day is a day set aside to remember those who actually died during a battle or died while serving in any of the US military branches during wartime.  Veteran's Day is a day set aside to honor those who previously served or are currently serving in one of our United States military branches, but did not necessarily die during service.
