Why do we take our poppies off a minute after 11: am on Veterans Day.

I was in a grocery store at 11:10 am on Remembrance Day in Canada and Veterans Day in the USA. and the lady before me said,`` Oh, it is time to take my poppy off`.`` In all my years, I never heard this quotation and I have worn my poppy a whole week after Veterans Day to Honor our soldiers who lost their lives so we may have Freedom. I do not mean to be disrespectful to our service men just a little blonde on this issue.

I have never heard the removal at 11:00 am..I do know that the poem " Flanders Field" written by a Canadian Physician in WW1..was the reason two women in Georgia began to make artifical poppy flowers to sell and raise money for returning soldiers..I was lead to believe the start time of wearing was Nov 11 at 11am and to be removed on Nov 12...I do recall however back in the 50's they were worn for the week of Nov 11...look froward to hearing from others...

Thanks for your input kj force. That's interesting that the origin of the poppy stated in Georgia ,also didn't know that. I am interested too to learn from others the answer.
