Why do some non-Christians put up Christmas trees?
I am a Christian and celebrate the birth of Christ each year. Part of that celebration is putting up a a CHRISTmas tree. I could care less if some atheists, Jews, Muslims or whoever else put up Christmas trees but I guess I don't understand why they would? I don't put up a menorah at Hanukkah because I am not Jewish. I also don't fast during Ramandan because I am not a Muslim. I respect all religions but I guess I don't understand why non-Christians care to celebrate the birth of Christ if it is something they don't believe in.
Well, historically the Christmas tree began from pagan traditions; the evergreen -or Yule tree as we call it- denotes regeneration as seen in life that sleeps beneath the winter snows waiting to burst forth again at spring. It also symbolizes the yearly rebirth of our Sun Lord. As a pagan, I certainly do not mind Christians borrowing this lovely tradition to celebrate their own god or religions, and if Jews or Muslims wish to incorporate it into their own belief system, more power to them.
