What is the meaning of Good Friday?
I am curious what Good Friday means to people. I have an idea myself, and know what it means to me. Perhaps it has no meaning for you. If it does however, I am curious to know what that is, and how you maybe give some extra special thought to that day, or maybe even have some religious observances?
Good Friday is the day observed in the religious community as the day Jesus was buried. Three days later on Easter Sunday he rose again.
"Good" Friday is a rather complex, taken as an independent event it is depressing; however, as part of the Easter Tridium it is literally the beginning of the most amazing event to Christians; that is; Christ's Rising from Death. Quite simply, God's vicarious way of showing us that death does not have to be final for those that emulate Christ (rather completely). There is a much greater reward after death for those who become Christ-like.
For the record, I believe one of the greatest Christ-like characters of the 20th Century was A non-Christian, named Muhatma Gandhi...

I just wondered how long a "paid" holiday people around the world get. I work in a University in the UK and I get Good Friday and Easter Monday as Bank Holidays and then Tuesday as an extra day- all paid?What do you get, if anything?
